Personal Training and Pilates instruction With Jo Ann McDonald.
Pilates instructor and Personal Trainer, Jo Ann McDonald, knows the challenges involved in changing lifestyle. Overweight since childhood, she fell into the same patterns as many Americans. Fast food and junk food became staples of her diet. Combined with a sedentary lifestyle, the scale climbed higher through the years, reaching morbid obesity by adulthood.
Faced with the numerous health risks associated with obesity, Jo Ann finally made the decision to act. She joined her local YMCA and started down the path to a new life. Over the next two years, Jo Ann made one small change at a time and slowly worked her way down to a healthy, strong body and a new appreciation for living a healthy, active lifestyle.
During Jo Ann's journey to fitness, she developed a love for the Pilates method. Pilates helps restore motion in stiff, deconditioned bodies that have become accustomed to remaining sedentary throughout the day. The principals of Pilates are also commonly used in physical therapy settings. Pilates builds long, lean muscles and helps increase the mind/body connection, which helps people feel they have more control with their bodies.
Jo Ann is also an AFAA certified personal trainer, focusing on helping other sedentary people reclaim their bodies using more traditional cardio exercises and free weights.
Close attention is paid to form and level of exertion so that each client works at the level right for their specific needs. Modifications are made for persons with pre-existing health conditions. Clients are also counseled on slowly changing eating habits to integrate the commonly suggested proportions of food to fuel the body properly instead of simply eating for taste.
Jo Ann believes that positivity is essential in lifestyle change. Negativity only makes one feel bad and gives a person a reason to give up during the difficult periods of change. Maintaining positivity improves your well-being and helps you succeed in other aspects of life.
Jo Ann knows support is also very important during change. Some people just need someone to cheer them on as they improve and some need a gentle hand to push them to work harder toward their goals. She has experienced the myriad benefits derived from a healthy lifestyle and appreciates the opportunity to help others achieve such goals.
